Concert details:
A flagship event for Mayo's 2026 EU Cultural Programme, this concert brings together
music by French composer Gabriel Fauré and his Irish contemporary Charles Villiers
Stanford. Cór Mhaigh Eo and Louisburgh Voices, directed by Kathy Quinn, will perform
Fauré's Requiem, with the ConTempo String Quartet, soloists Pauline Graham (soprano)
and Owen Gilhooly-Miles (baritone), and organist Michael Quinn. The programme also
includes Massenet's Méditation, the second of Stanford's Six Bible Songs ('A Song of Trust')
and the first movement of Stanford's String Quartet No. 2.
Professor Harry White, Emeritus Professor of Music at University College Dublin
and one of Ireland’s leading musicologists, will present a pre-concert talk providing
insights into the relationship between Irish and European classical traditions.
